Amish
Sandwich Bread
Ingredients
2 cups very warm water
2/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 TBSP yeast
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup oil
5-6 cups bread flour
Directions
1. In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar
in warm water, then add the yeast. Allow the yeast to proof until it is
foamy.
2. Add oil into the yeast. Work in 4
cups of flour and the salt. Dough will be sticky then gradually add more flour
until the dough is no longer sticky. Do not add too much or your bread will be
to hard. Knead the dough on a floured countertop until smooth. Return
dough to bowl and cover with a damp towel for one hour.
3. Punch down the dough. Knead for a few minutes and divide in half. To shape the
loaves…flatten the ball of dough and then roll it up tight and place into
greased loaf pan with the seam down.
4. Allow to rise for about 30-45 mins until the bread has come just above the top
of the pan.
5. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)
for 30 mins.
Makes 2
loaves.
